Buddha asks us to let go of that sense of urgency that we so often think of and to simply be. “My wish for you, my brothers and sisters, is to be a sacred life. That is my gift to you. It is a time (Christmas) in many cultures where there are exchanges of gifts, so this will be my gift to you: a sacred life of nothing. Take it in joy, and sit with me and simply be. We can laugh together.

I am The Wayfarer. You call me Buddha. I come from the East and I come from the North, the South, the West because my friends the point is I come, and I meet you in the center of this sacred space. I meet you in the center of your divinity. And I meet you in the center of your Love.

I do not have so much to impart to you this day. You are welcome to take whatever you need. If there is need for compassion, then receive it from me. If there is need for deeper forgiveness of yourself or anyone, including me, then take it. If there is need for greater Love and acknowledgement of who you are, then let me imbue you with that radiance.

But what I come here this day, for why I make my presence known, is to simply be with you, to sit as we have long ago in the sacredness of space and in the sacredness of Love. And it is not that I counsel inaction, although there are many times, my friends, when inaction is the wisest action of all. For in that stillness you are not stepping on ants and spiders and each other’s toes. It is particularly a question in your world that you inhabit, or believe that you inhabit, that there is innate value in doing. And many of you have come to think and believe that the more you do, the more profound you are. This is not so. Dharma is to be. And it is what I ask of you: it is simply to be. For when you are in this place, in this bright shiny place of nothing and All, that sense of urgency that you so often think of can be let go of.

Now you know that I am not one that is fond of preaching. For why would I do that when you already know, when everything is already there. And I am not even one for many gifts. For long ago, I gave you my little stick and sack, and then asked you to throw it away, for you do not need these possessions to weigh you down. And let me suggest to you that when you carry any burden whether it is guilt or shame or blame, hostility, inadequacy – these are burdens. And it is not your purpose to carry these. So you may set them down beside me by the Bodhi Tree, and I will take care of them. I do not want you to carry these things, for you cannot be in this space with me and carry these possessions. So let go. Let go of these preconceptions about how good or evil you are. Let go and come and sit with me and share this space, this wondrous space of divinity, and let us grow it together.

You know when I sit, there is not a single human being that passes by me that does not in some way engage me and I them. And yet I do nothing. I want you to get used to that – of doing everything that has need to be done whether it is in your imagination or in your contract, whether it is in your karma or in your selection of choices – I want you to do all of that without doing anything. And to trust that you are already everything. The sacredness of your nature – so often you say “Oh, I want my sacred space, my sacred ritual, my sacred prayer.” My wish for you, my brothers and sisters, is to be a sacred life. That is my gift to you. It is a time in many cultures where there are exchanges of gifts, so this will be my gift to you: a sacred life of nothing. Take it in joy, and sit with me and simply be. We can laugh together. Farewell.
